SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
REQUIREMENTS (SCHS)
The objectives of the National
Science Honor Society are to: Encourage and recognize scientific and
intellectual thought; advance the students’ knowledge of classical and
modern science; communicate with the scientific community; aid the civic
community with its comprehension of science; encourage students to
participate in community service in turn, encourage a dedication to the
pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all humankind. Membership in
the Science National Honor Society is conferred in the junior and senior
years of high school. A student must have and maintain an overall 3.0/4.0
grade point average to be a member. In addition, the following
qualifications must be met and maintained:

A member must be enrolled in at least
one honors or upper level science class during or prior to the eleventh grade year. A member must be enrolled in at least one second-year honors
or upper level science class during or prior to the twelfth grade year.
Honors and upper level science courses include Honors Physical Science,
Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Anatomy, Honors Physics, AP
Physics, or AP Biology.

A member must maintain a B+ average
(3.5/4.0) across all science courses.

No junior or senior student will be
tapped into the Science National Honor Society who has not passed the
Science portion of the Graduation Exam.

All members must attend one local
chapter officer’s lecture annually.

Students must have no suspensions from school
the year that they are tapped. After that year, if a student commits a
Class II offense, s/he will be placed on probation for a period of 18
weeks beginning immediately. If the student commits another Class II
offense, s/he will be removed from the Science National Honor Society. If
a student commits a Class III offense, s/he will be removed immediately
from the Science National Honor Society.
