The Scholars’ Bowl is an academic team that participates in matches against other high school teams in Jefferson County during the fall and also competes in various invitational tournaments, which occur mostly from January through March.

The Scholars’ Bowl is open to any 9-12 grade student who has a mind like a tar bucket and a set of very quick reflexes. Questions at Scholars’ Bowl matches cover all academic areas, plus current events and sports. Students who have expertise in any of these categories should contribute their talents to the team. The fall practice sessions (normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:30) are open to any and all interested students, BUT at the competitions only those who are assertive, quick, and accurate will compete. We will compete in five sets of practice games during the fall–three in October, two in November, and one in December. Our standing at the end of the practice games will be used to determine our seed during the county tournament in February. Tentatively, the practice games are scheduled for Tuesday afternoons. We will play Pleasant Grove, Hueytown, Oak Grove, and McAdory.  We will play three of those teams at each event. Most of the time, Minor is able to field two teams. Our varsity team has been very successful in recent years, often going undefeated during the regular season and then making it very deep in the Jefferson County tournament. Interested students should contact Ms. Heard in Room A-248. The Scholar's Bowl Team won the County Championship in the Spring of 2006.
