NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY REQUIREMENTS
Membership
in the National Honor Society is the highest honor that can be bestowed
upon a high school student. Membership is, however, more than an honor.
It carries with it a responsibility and an obligation. Once selected for
membership, a student is expected to continue to demonstrate those
outstanding qualities which brought about his selection. Those qualities
that are considered are leadership, character, scholarship, and service.
No student will be considered if s/he has been suspended for any reason
or if the faculty or administration feel the student's behavior is not
in keeping with the standards set by the National Honor Society. No
student will be considered who has taken any classes below the general
level. The requirements are as follows:
 |
Students
in the eleventh grade and twelfth grade must have a 3.5 cumulative grade
point average. |
 |
Students
must have four teacher recommendation forms completed to use in
determining eligibility. |
 |
Each
prospective member must be involved in school and community activities. |
 |
Students
must have no suspensions from school the year that they are tapped.
After that year, if a student commits a Class II offense, s/he will be
placed on probation for a period of 18 weeks beginning immediately. If
the student commits another Class II offense, s/he will be removed from
the National Honor Society. If a student commits a Class III offense,
s/he will be removed immediately from the National Honor Society. |
 |
No
one may serve as National Honor Society president and Mu Alpha Theta
president during the same school year. |
 |
No one will be tapped into the National Honor Society
who has not passed all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation
Exam. |
