NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY
REQUIREMENTS (NAHS)
In 1978, the National
Art Education Association (NAEA) began the National Art Honor Society (NAHS)
program specifically for high school students in grades 10-12 for the
purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an
outstanding ability in art. The NAHS also strives to aid members in
working toward the attainment of their highest potential in art areas,
and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
Membership in the National Art Honor Society shall be based upon art
scholarship, service, and character. The requirements are as follows:
 |
Students must have
been in attendance for a period of one semester/term in art at this
school. |
 |
Students eligible
for selection to this chapter must be high school students
(sophomore, junior, and senior students only), and have a minimum
art scholarship average of 3.0 and have a cumulative average of
3.0. This level of achievement shall remain fixed. Members may
remain active during such time when there is no art on their class
schedule. |
 |
The selection of
members to this chapter of NAHS shall be by recommendation from the
art faculty of this school. |
 |
Any member who
falls below the standards that are the basis for selection shall be
promptly warned. If during the next grading period, the member fails
to meet the standards used as basis for se-lection to the Society,
the case shall be passed upon by the chapter council. When a member
is dismissed, s/he must be notified and the membership card returned
to the sponsor. |
 |
Students must have
no suspensions from school the year they are selected. After that
year, if a student commits a Class II offense, s/he will be placed
on probation for a period of 18 weeks beginning immediately. If the
student commits another Class II offense, s/he will be removed from
the NAHS. If a student commits a Class III offense, s/he will be
removed immediately from the NAHS. |
