Assistant Director: James Crumb, Jr.

The Minor High School Band Program consists of four ensembles: marching band, symphonic band, concert band, and the newest smallest band is the jazz ensemble!

Our bands have enjoyed a wealth of success for many years, receiving "Best in Class" and superior ratings in symphonic, concert, and marching  band festivals throughout the southeast. Notable marching band performances include Minor High School Football Games, UAB Homecoming Parade, Magic City Classic Parade, Graysville Christmas Parade, and Adamsville Christmas Parade.

This year the symphonic band has been invited to perform at the Alabama Bandmasters Association Winter Conference. This performance will take place on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the University Of Alabama's Moody Performance Hall. This invitation comes as a huge honor for the Minor Band Program, for only the best bands in the state are considered for this venue.

Our Band Auxiliary includes the Flag Line and the Majorettes. Try-outs are held yearly for anyone who is interested in becoming a member of either team.

Concert Band is open to all students with permission of the band director. The class is offered second term.  Students must be in band first term to participate in Concert Band. Uniform rental and fees are required.  If numbers permit, the class is divided into two groups–concert and symphonic.

Each year the band takes a spring trip. The latest trips have been to Atlanta, Orlando, and San Antonio. On April 30-May 4, 2008, we will travel to Orlando  to participate in the All-Star Music Festival.  The symphonic and jazz ensembles will compete against similar groups from around the country for awards and ratings.

Annually several of our band seniors earn scholarships to play in college and university bands.  Recent graduates have matriculated at Alabama A&M University, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama State University, Samford University, Tennessee State University, Miles College and others.

We encourage all students to join the band. We work hard, but we have a lot of fun in the process!

The 26th Annual Greater Birmingham Marching Festival was held on October 6, 2007, at Minor High school stadium. This festival provided bands with an opportunity to perform and be evaluated in an outstanding facility that is acoustically well suited to band music. Adjudicated as an "early contest," the emphasis is on helping the bands refine their shows for the more rigorous evaluations of the late season.
