The year is 2021 and
Minor High School has been assigned a mission. After taking a year off to
solve the laundry quandary, BEST Robotics, Inc. returns to space! In an
attempt to prepare for manned missions to Mars, NASA scientist have
enlisted the help of local high school students to design a robot that can
successfully transport food and medical supplies from Automated Supply
Vehicles to a Martian base that has been assembled using construction
robots and is now receiving supplies before the arrival of astronauts. In
the past Minor High School has been RAD to the Core,
traveled at speed Warp X, performed a delicate
Transfusion Confusion, cured BEST Fever, completed a
Mission to Hubble, and solved a Laundry Quandary.
How will Minor fair in 2021: A Robot Odyssey?
Last year, Minor High
School was the only Jefferson County High School to advance to the South’s
BEST Regional Competition. We placed the highest we have ever placed at
South’s BEST. In the robotics portion of the competition, we advanced to
the semi-finals for the first time, which placed us in the top 16 teams of
the 44 teams that advanced to the championship. In the BEST Award, which
includes the table display, project summary notebook, and oral
presentation, we placed 8th overall. In all, approximately 170
teams compete in the BEST competition at the regional level. Minor placed
in the top 5% of all the schools in the southeast!
