The Minor High Art Department has been very busy creating works of art
that beautify the school. Students at Minor may follow the art curriculum listed
below.
Art I - This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of
drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and the applied arts. Projects are
disciplined-based (the study and application of art production, art history, art
criticism, and aesthetics).
Art II - This is a continuing course in various media with a greater
emphasis on building a visual vocabulary. Additional art history themes are
explored using a disciplined-based approach. A more in-depth study and use of
art criticism and aesthetics are included. (Prerequisite: Art I)
Art III - This is a course for students with a serious interest in the
visual arts. More individuality is expected and students are expected to develop
independence in art projects. (Prerequisite: Art II)
Art IV - This course is designed for students interested in developing
a more personal style in their artwork. Students will use the elements and
principles of art learned in previous art courses in increasingly complicated
and original approaches. The course will include art history through a study of
various artists and their interpretations of their culture. The students will
learn to make aesthetic judgments and apply methods of art criticism to their
work as well as the works of others. This course will emphasize self-directed
learning. (Prerequisite: Art III)
Three-Dimensional Art/Sculpture - This
course is designed to introduce students to the basics of three-dimensional art.
Various types of sculpture will be the focus including freestanding, mobile,
stabile, addictive, subtractive, kinetic, and assemblage. It is important that
the students have some prior knowledge of the elements and principles of art and
design, both of which are taught in Art I (Prerequisite: Art I
Permission of Instructor)
Arts and Crafts - This course is a hands-on applied arts curriculum
that utilizes media such as macramé, weaving, pottery, modeling, and other
current appropriate craft activities.
Ms. Norman and
Ms. Helveston are the instructors.
